Your handwriting. The way you walk. Which china pattern you choose. It’s all giving you away. Everything you do shows your hand. Everything is a self-portrait. Everything is a diary.

Revealing yourself, physically or emotionally, to cast and crew is frequently uncomfortable. But it is essential if you want to to tell the truth. I felt more at ease being bold with some than I did with others. I was incredibly fortunate to have worked with Randy Harrison as Justin Taylor. We share enough taste in music and art to have had a real camaraderie, and luckily that evolved into a deep friendship.
- Gale Harold, on whether or not he felt uncomfortable having such intimate scenes with other men (x)

"My take on Brian was foremost one of free will. It seemed to me that the most direct way to find him was to underplay all the cliches. He simply wanted men and believed he was right. He had no need to question himself. Of course those were my angles. How he came across was the result of those choices I made blended with the way the part was written, shot and edited. I kept returning to my belief that his sexuality was not up for debate by anyone, himself included."

Go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practising an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an an enormous reward. You will have created something.
- Kurt Vonnegut

Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now.

"and if we are occupied with important things, if we attain to honor or fall into great misfortune— still let us remember how good it was once here, when we were all together, united by a good and kind feeling, which made us better perhaps than we are." - the brothers karamazov, fyodor dostoyevsky

All the things that I did. You need to understand… I did it for me. I liked it. I was good at it. And I was really…I was alive.

for so long all I wanted was to be like other people, to feel what they felt, but now that I do I just want it to stop.

Journalism is printing what someone else does not want printed: everything else is public relations.
- George Orwell

Brian Kinney wasn’t an asshole, I just think he didn’t care about toeing the line. He wanted to be himself, he simply wasn’t willing to take a back seat or entertain anyone else’s idea of right and wrong and he didn’t hesitate to let that be known. So I don’t think he was a bad guy at all. In fact, he was a very, very heroic character that took care of himself and lived to be what he thought what he wanted to be.
